The Sound of Identity documents Lucia Lucas, the first transgender woman in opera history to perform on a MainStage Opera as Don Giovanni in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lucas has gone on to world recognition, performing at The Met multiple times, and performing the titular role in opera composer Tobias Picker’s critically acclaimed Lile Elbe. The opera was named Best World Premiere at Germany’s International Opera Prize, through its OPER! Awards. Picker, who is Lucas’ mentor, is also featured in the documentary.
